Dedicated to the memory of Banchhaya Roy - known to her family as Jhunua, most people as Benu, and Rita to the thousands of people she answered the phone to at Samaritans

Benu passed away at 5pm on 21st January 2021 at home and surrounded by family as she wanted.  She devoted her life to supporting others and asked for nothing in return.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years Barun, elder son Bratin, younger son Brijesh, adopted daughter Pia and four grandchildren Abigail, Madeline, Oliver and Esme.

For over 20 years, she volunteered for Samaritans, anonymously answering phones and emails, providing emotional support for people in distress with nowhere else to turn.

For over 20 years, she supported the Windsor branch of Age Concern helping with everything from visiting individuals, organising events and even driving the Age Concern bus.

For over 30 years, she created and maintained Kankhal Medical Aid a charity fundraising for the Ramakrishna Mission Sevashram charitable hospital in Kankhal, Haridwar.

She gave regular donations to Cancer Research UK, the charity researching the disease that eventually took her life.

She was much loved and respected and always put others ahead of herself. She will always be remembered.

Once Covid restrictions are lifted, the family will take her ashes on pilgrimage to the sacred Ganges River, in Kankhal, Haridwar.

For donations to Kankhal Medical Aid please send cheques payable to Barun Roy, 4 Stuart Close, Windsor, SL4 5NU
